The Sheriff may issue a permit to carry a concealed weapon pursuant to Penal Code section 12050(a)(I). The Sheriff is not required to issue a concealed weapon permit nor does the applicant have a right to such a permit. California law has established a criteria to be examined prior to the Sheriff issuing a concealed weapon’s permit. Good Cause is not required.

Explosives Permit

All San Benito County residents and businesses are required to obtain an explosives permit. Download the following two packets:

To request an explosives permit, complete the downloaded forms and return them to the Sheriff’s Office at 2301 Technology Parkway, Hollister, CA 95023 by mail or in person. 

Secondhand or Pawn broker permit

Read the attached letter and make an appointment as detailed in the letter.

Candidate Nomination Period

For all Candidates for office in the March 5, 2024 Primary Election

Between these dates, candidates must file their Declaration of Candidacy and Nomination Papers.  The process involves:

  • Paying a filing fee (if applicable)
  • Filing all required Nomination Signatures
  • Filing the Code of Fair Campaign Practices
  • Filing a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700)
  • Optionally filing a Candidate Statement of Qualifications
  • Filing a Ballot Designation Worksheet
  • Filing the Declaration of Candidacy

Offices up for election may be viewed here.  Also on that page, potential candidates may select to Pre-Register, which will allow the Department of Elections to pre-fill your paperwork for you.
