Government Code Section 56325(c) grants special districts the right to have representation on LAFCOs. Approximately half of all LAFCOs in the State have special district representation.  Representation would consist of 2 regular members and 1 alternate member representing all independent special districts in the County.   These representatives would be determined by an election of the special districts. San Benito LAFCO would then increase from a 5-member to a 7-member commission.  At present, San Benito LAFCO is requesting that the special districts vote indicating whether a majority of districts desire to have representation on LAFCO.  This vote is conducted by resolution considered for approval by each governing body of each special district.  The due date for return of approved resolutions is October 1, 2024 to the LAFCO Executive Officer.  Further information on LAFCO, the reason for special district representation on LAFCO, and the process for seating special districts is below.

LAFCO will be holding a public workshop to answers any questions about this effort on Thursday August 9, 2024 at 2 pm.  The workshop is open to anyone interested.  More information on the content of the workshop and location can be found here.
