Planning Effort Developing a regional broadband strategy for last mile infrastructure.

May 10, 2023 - The county of San Benito, backed by Economic Development Administration (EDA) funding secured by the Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA), is embarking on the development of a countywide Broadband Strategic Plan. The GSCA is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) governed by a Board of Directors comprised of elected members of the Board of Supervisors from each of its 40 member counties.

The project will include an analysis of broadband benefits and contributions to local government and local economies and a broadband market, policies and programs, SMART community applications, community needs and digital equity an inclusion analysis. The planning process will include outreach and request for participation of local government, businesses, residents, education, tribe(s) etc.

The County and the consulting team, TeleworX, are requesting community participation by taking the needs assessment survey and internet speed testing. To participate,  community members and businesses can submit their answers here:  Needs Assessment Survey.  Both the survey and the speed testing are available in Spanish and English.

Outcomes of the study will include the identification of underserved populations, priority projects, operational solutions, and grant funding to outline options for high-speed, reliable and affordable broadband connectivity. The project will align the County and Cities with the State of California’s Broadband for All initiative that targets reliable and affordable internet for all Californians.

For any questions regarding this important initiative, please reach out to the consulting team at broadbandinfo@teleworx.com and a member of the project team will get back to you.
