The office of the County Counsel provides legal advice to the San Benito County Board of Supervisors, County Departments and Agencies, and certain Commissions, Committees and Special Districts.  We do not provide legal advice to the general public, nor can our office answer legal questions received from members of the general public.

Any person/s requiring assistance is advised to contact the department pertinent to the assistance needed. 

DEPARTMENT MISSION

The Office of County Counsel provides a broad range of high quality, cost-effective legal services designed to promote the public service objectives of the County of San Benito, and each of its departments and agencies, in compliance with all applicable legal requirements, while at the same time protecting the County from risk and loss. The office accomplishes its mission by doing each of the following:

Being accessible and responsive to clients
Providing honest and direct advice, in confidence
Providing creative solutions and viable alternatives for County decision-makers
Preparing clear and concise documents
Being tenacious advocates
Identifying and understanding the applicable law
Tracking changes in the applicable law
Networking with other public law offices
Engaging and monitoring the services of outside counsel
