Ashlyn A. Canez, Chief Probation Officer

Ashlyn Canez

Chief Canez was appointed Chief Probation Officer for San Benito County in September of 2023 by Honorable Judge J. Omar Rodriguez of the San Benito County Superior Court.  

Chief Canez began her career in 2012 as a Probation Aide and has worked her way through the various ranks and positions within the department. She has held the positions of Deputy Probation Officer (I & II), Senior Deputy Probation Officer, Supervising Deputy Probation Officer, Probation Program Manager and Assistant Chief Probation Officer. During her tenure she has worked juvenile intake, placement, collaborative courts, juvenile supervision, adult supervision, court officer, as well as adult and juvenile investigations. Chief Canez is a proud member of the San Benito County Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) as well as a member of the Chief Probation Officers of California (CPOC). 

Chief Canez received her bachelor’s degree from California State University Stanislaus, where she majored in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Juvenile Justice. She is a lifelong resident of San Benito County and is committed to serving the community she was raised in. 

 

John Oliveira, Assistant Chief Probation Officer

John Oliviera

John was promoted to Assistant Chief Probation Officer in December of 2023. He first began employment with the San Benito County Probation Department as a Juvenile Institution Officer in February of 2016. Throughout his tenure, John has served the county as a Deputy Probation Officer, Senior Deputy Probation Officer, and Probation Program Manager. He has experience with both the adult division and juvenile/investigations teams and the various caseloads therein. In addition to his facility experience, through probation field operations, he has served as the department's Range Master, Armorer and Lead Field Training Officer.  

John graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He previously worked as a Correctional Officer for two years for the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office and as a Youth Advocate Counselor for the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

 

Adult Division 

Lisa Saucedo

Lisa Saucedo, Probation Program Manager

Lisa joined the San Benito County Probation Department as a Deputy Probation Officer II in August of 2015. She was further promoted to Senior Deputy Probation Officer in January of 2019. Throughout her tenure, Lisa has been a member of the adult division, has been a Defensive Tactics/Taser Instructor, and has worked and overseen both adult/juvenile supervision caseloads. As such, she was promoted to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer in February of 2020 under the Adult Division. This position was reclassified to Probation Program Manager in 2021. Prior to her employment with San Benito County, she was a Deputy Probation Officer for Santa Cruz County for 10 years. 

Lisa graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice and from the University of San Diego with a master’s degree in law enforcement and public safety leadership.

Lisa is also the California Association of Probation Services Administrators (CAPSA) State Board Secretary.

Youth Services Center 

Jonell Casada

Jonell Casada, Probation Program Manager

Jonell (Jodi) began her career with the San Benito County Probation Department in 2003. She was hired as a Juvenile Institutions Officer in March of 2004 and promoted to a Juvenile Institutions Officer III in August of 2014. Jodi has instituted a number of programs and services within the facility and further promoted to Juvenile Hall Supervisor in August of 2019. Jodi has extensive knowledge and experience in facility management, to include daily operations, scheduling, programming, training, annual inspections, etc. She is currently the Probation Program Manager overseeing the San Benito County Youth Services Center, formerly known as the San Benito County Juvenile Hall. 

Jodi currently serves as the Bay Region Chair for the California Association of Program Institutions Administrators (CAPIA). She is also president for the San Benito Arts Council in San Benito County.

Sabriena2

 Sabriena Tobia, Probation Program Manager

 Sabriena joined the San Benito County Probation Department in April of   2011 and has worked in the following capacities over the years: Probation   Aide, Deputy Probation Officer, Senior Deputy Probation Officer, and   Supervising Deputy Probation Officer. She was promoted to Probation   Program Manager in February of 2024 and has been assigned to the   Juvenile & Investigations Division.  

Throughout her tenure, Sabriena has gained experience and knowledge across all sectors of probation, including juvenile casework/supervision, court and investigations, adult case management, specialty courts, field supervision, and facility operations at the Youth Services Center.

Reentry Services

Renee Hankla

Renée Hankla, Reentry Program Manager

Renée joined the San Benito County Probation Department in August of 2016 as a Reentry Program Manager. Renee oversees all programs, classes, and reentry services, offered at the San Benito County Jail. Renee has extensive experience working with justice involved individuals as she began her career with San Benito County in 2007 as the Substance Abuse Program Manager with San Benito County Behavioral Health. She also previously worked as a Clinical Supervisor at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad, CA.

Renée graduated from the University of Hawai’i with a bachelor’s degree in social science/psychology and from Argosy University with a master’s degree in forensic psychology. 

Renée is also the President of the California Jail Programs Association (CJPA).     

 Administrative Services Division 

Lorraine 2024

Lorraine Carrasquillo, Director of Administrative Services

Lorraine joined the San Benito County Probation Department as a Staff Analyst in January of 2019. In 2022, she was promoted to the Director of Administrative Services and currently oversees the administrative division, budget, hiring, training, contracts, and departmental reports. Prior to this, she worked for the city of Merced, the San Andreas Regional Center, and South County Housing. 

Lorraine graduated with an associate degree in liberal studies from Gavilan College and Business Management. She graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and received a master’s degree in public administration. 

Meg Bagley

Meg Bagley, Administrative Services Specialist

Meg began her career at the San Benito County Probation Department in May of 2003 as an Office Assistant III and in January of 2015, she was promoted to the position of Secretary I. Meg has assumed nearly every support staff role and responsibility within the department and has been an unwavering source of reliability in the department. In December of 2018, she was promoted to the role of Administrative Services Specialist, where she manages the recruitment and onboarding of new employees and supervises the amazing clerical team.  

 

Damon Luecke

Damon Luecke, Staff Analyst

Damon joined the San Benito County Probation Department in the March of 2023. He is a Staff Analyst who currently oversights the department’s I.T. systems inventory, case management system, and data collection. Prior to this, he worked for the San Mateo County Probation Department for 16 years and worked in several capacities. From 2006 until 2014, he was a Juvenile Corrections Officer/Counselor for the Juvenile Hall and the Boys Ranch, from 2014 until 2021 he served in the role of a Departmental Systems Analyst, and from 2021 until 2023 he was a Correctional Administrator. 

Damon received his bachelor’s degree in psychology, from San Francisco State University.
